Criw Cymraeg

At Ysgol Penygloddfa, we are proud to have a dedicated Criw Cymraeg – a team of enthusiastic pupils who work hard to promote the Welsh language and culture throughout our school. Chosen from across the year groups, these pupils act as ambassadors for Cymraeg, encouraging others to use Welsh in and around the school in fun and meaningful ways.

The Criw Cymraeg helps to improve the use of Welsh by:

  • Leading Welsh phrases of the week (Cymraeg yr Wythnos) and helping their peers use them in everyday situations.

  • Organising Welsh-themed assemblies and celebrating special occasions such as Dydd Miwsig Cymru and Dydd Gwyl Dewi.

  • Supporting teachers and pupils with simple Welsh commands (patrymau) and greetings to help build confidence in speaking.

  • Running competitions, games, and lunchtime clubs that promote Welsh language and culture.

  • Encouraging the use of Welsh signage and displays around the school to create a bilingual environment.

  • Helping the school work towards the Siarter Iaith (Welsh Language Charter), aiming to strengthen the use of Welsh across the school community.

Our Criw Cymraeg is passionate about making Welsh fun and accessible for everyone. Through their work, they help foster a love for the language and pride in our Welsh identity.
